Outreach & Service

Our Outreach and Service Ministry is dedicated to helping the members of Christ the Servant live out the commandment to love one another. We offer opportunities to help the less fortunate in our local Gaithersburg area, the larger Metro DC area and around the world.

We open our doors to the community

Our facilities usage program opens our doors to a diverse array of groups who need a safe and affordable place to meet. We host AA and NA groups, Brownies, ESL classes and groups who need space for worship services and Bible study.

We work to feed the needy

Members of the congregation offer their time and dollars to help fight hunger. Several members serve as volunteers with Gaithersburg HELP. We assemble and distribute Thanksgiving Baskets and prepare meals for the Community Based Shelter; support MANNA with fresh produce collections and assist McKenna’s Wagon by delivering food to the homeless in DC

We collect money and needed items to support a variety of causes

  • Bars of soap for Lutheran World Relief in the spring
  • School supplies in the summer
  • Coats and blankets in the fall
  • Secret Santa in December
  • Gifts of Hope in December
  • Used eye glasses – ongoing
  • Stamps for the National Lutheran Home
  • Wish list items for the Lamb Center
  • Clothing for the Upper County Clothing Center
  • Money and supplies for the HIV/AIDS Youth Haven Camps

We lobby for the One Program and the enactment of the UN Millennium Development Goals

We walk for:

  • A cure for breast cancer
  • MS research
  • The hungry and homeless
